Conservation & Preservation Services
The conservators at PhotoArts Imaging Professionals follow the Guidelines for Practice and Code of Ethics of the American Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC). All work is performed to the highest standards for conservation, restoration and preservation as identified by the ISO guidelines for still and moving images & photographic images, the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) Still and Moving Image Groups, the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA), and the National Film Preservation Foundation (NFPF).
Examining images in a family collection
The conservators are members of their respective AIC specialty groups & networks and members of the Southeast Region Conservation Association (SERCA). Ms. Du Boise & Mr. Canizaro are advisors on the Connecting to Collections Care forums for photographic, audio-visual and film-based materials. Kim Du Boise works with the MS Gulf Coast Alliance for Response network for disaster planning & response.

Unmanaged archive of various photographic materials
Projects range from single image prints to multiple albums, from a few negatives or slides to a collection that spans decades or generations of families. Planning for collections that need rehousing, that are unmanaged and lack documentation, or have deterioration issues are a few of the projects we have successfully helped clients resolve.
Staff rehousing & condition assessment of sheet film
We specialize in prints and negatives from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century. This covers the hand-made historic processes, including cased photographs on metal & glass, to the earliest glass & film-based negatives, to the POP and modern Developing Out Papers.
The Audio-Visual lab conserves outdated, obsolete formats such as reel-to-reel movies and audio tape, VHS and BETA cassette tapes, as well as records on glass, clay & metal covered in lacquer, and vinyl records. This also includes cleaning & recovering items damaged by storms, mold or fungus, accidents and smoke or fire.
