Restoration Services
Restoration is bringing back a photograph by directly working on the image or by digital means on a high resolution scan of the photo. This also can be performed on damaged negatives. Using the skills that the conservator has acquired from years of training, experience and the study of art & art history, our conservators will examine your piece and advise you on the best method for the particular item & damages.

Digital restoration is performed when actual work on the original photo would not be appropriate for a variety of reasons, including devaluing the original’s historic or cultural worth. Conservation & restoration of older or damaged photographs is aided by the knowledge of the software to re-create areas of loss in an image. For photographs on metal, glass or other supports, restoration of the digitized copy image gives clients the ability to share a copy of the original image with family members or friends. The copy prints are made on acid-free digital photography paper that most closely matches the paper used by the original photographer.

The copies of one-of-a-kind images such as Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes, Tintypes, or other photo supports may be printed on the client’s choice of surfaces. All papers & ink combinations have been tested the Wilhelm Research Institute
Ambrotype in package, brass mat and glass
for longevity. Paper/ink used at PhotoArts are those which have met the ISO standards for archival quality and long life.
